Ever After July 2016 Box: Baby You’re a Firework

July has ended, and before we get too far into August, I wanted to share my Ever After July 2016 Box. This time, the theme was Baby You’re a Firework, inspired by 4th of July fireworks, of course. The box’s main, namesake polish (Baby You’re a Firework) is a black scattered holo with fleck of gold, purple, and turquoise. This month also had a mini polish, Boom, which is a glitter topper with gold and silver multi size holo glitters with a purple to blue shimmer. The body product is a new product, Coconut Milk Salt Bath in Aqua Spa, a rose and lily scent, with hints of orange, lime, and ozone. To top off this explosive theme, the box came with two packets of fun and fizzy Pebble Pops candy.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the labels on the polish, which I for some reason have neglected in the past. Every month, the polish name label is printed to fit the box theme. This month’s bottles had bright and colorful fireworks, and you can see the lovely labels from previous months below. Extract of Llama was not a monthly box polish, but the label was too cute not to include! EA has been including these special labels in some of their other releases as well. It’s a small detail, but it adds something extra and shows how much thought and effort goes into the creation of this box every month.

I decided to use Baby You’re a Firework for my mani, and top an accent nail with Boom. I know it’s not the most creative choice, but I wanted to be able to feature both polishes, while keeping things simple. I painted my nails with two coats of Baby You’re a Firework to achieve full opacity. I found the formula to be thicker than normal, so I had to be careful with my application. Despite the thickness, it still had a good dry time, and it didn’t take me long to finish my two coats. I then topped with Gelous top coat. I waited a day to put on Boom, to get some pictures with just the main polish, so on day two I painted my index finger with one coat of Boom. It’s packed with glitter and holo that distributes very evenly, and the suspension base dried quickly. Of course the sun did not cooperate with me, so my pictures with Boom are from day three of this mani. Baby You’re a Firework earns big points for zero chipping so far.

Baby You’re a Firework is a deep, true black, packed with plenty of holo shimmer. It didn’t photograph as well as I would like, but make no mistake that this color is bursting with rainbows, especially in the sunlight. The gold, purple, and turquoise flecks add an extra dimension of sparkle and shimmer that really is reminiscent of fireworks. The purple-blue shimmer in Boom really contrasts with the gold and silver glitters, giving this topper flashes of warm and cool tones all at once. It really adds dimension and more holo (which is never a bad thing) without being overpoweringly glittery or flashy. Despite having many elements, it blends really well for a cohesive finish and unique look.

The body product this month was a new product for Ever After, Coconut Milk Salt Bath. According to the directions, you “add 1/4 cup of salt to warm bath water. Salt will foam and release a relaxing spa like fragrance.” While I haven’t taken a full bath with the Salt Bath yet, I did test it out in hot water and used it for a mini hand soak. The mix dissolves well, so you don’t have any grainy bits floating around. The fragrance is subtle but present. It’s pleasantly floral, refreshed by the orange and citrus notes, a perfect blend for summer. The coconut milk really adds to the blend, adding sweet notes to the scent, providing moisturizing power, and giving it a luxurious feel. I’m very pleased with this product, and will definitely be using it next time I indulge in a bath (as opposed to my regular shower, people, I’m not just dirty all the time).

Overall, and as usual, I’m quite happy with this box. Even though I love getting new bath and body goodies, I was excited to see the return of the mini polish, as we haven’t had one in the box in a while. I love minis in general, and polish is no exception. Both shades this month had a lot of dimension and were, in keeping with the fireworks theme, bursting with color. If you haven’t looked into the Ever After Monthly Box yet, you probably should. The theme of the August Box will be Mother of Dragons, and I imagine it’s going to be a big hit with everyone. I can’t wait to see what they create.
